The Advantages of High Quality Data Cabling For a Network

A proper computer network is the backbone of any business today. Every company depends on computers to transmit and store mission-critical data across departments and locations. Any disruption in the network can result in loss of business and profitability. Hence, it is of supreme importance that the computer network has minimum downtime by being extremely fault-tolerant.

Data cabling is typically done between two computers and other electronic devices like printers, scanners, etc. Proper data cabling can ensure that the networks can function smoothly and fast. Hence, companies have started to pay special attention towards proper cabling between computers. Use of inferior quality data and telephone cabling can render the network unstable and seriously hamper business operations. It can also result in data leakage or even data loss.

Wired and wireless networks:

A wired network is one where a data cabling or telephone cabling is used to connect the computers and the peripherals to each other. On the other hand, computers using wireless networks get connected over the air without the need for physical cabling.

Benefits of wired networks over wireless:
  • Stability: Wireless signals are known to fluctuate and susceptible to interferences from other wireless devices like mobile phones and cordless telephone sets. This is not the case with the wired networks, as they shielded data cabling that is used keeps them immune to external interferences. Hence, a computer network built using data cabling will be more stable than a wireless one.
  • Speed: Use of high quality data and telephone cabling can ensure that there are minimum losses of data packets. Hence, the quality and speed of data transfer in a wired network is better than that in a wireless network.
  • Security: Use of data cabling to connect computers and peripherals minimises the risk of unauthorised access to the communication channels. While a wireless network can be hacked by scanning the transmission channels, a wired network cannot be hacked without gaining physical access to the network.
Due to these benefits, most of the companies still prefer to go for high quality data cabling to build their networks, instead of going wireless.
